How I lowered my blood pressure from 220/115 to 117/78
How I lowered my blood pressure from 220/115 to 117/78
The Beginning Of A Very Scary Moment
It was 10 at night and I was closing the shop down. After turning off the lights, counting out the till, locking the doors and leaving I had felt a tightness in chest. I was prone to having panic attacks (which i’ll talk about in a separate post at a later time), and knew this was something more than my usual panic attack based off the symptoms I was having. My arms were tingling, one of my eyes would not stop twitching and my vision was blurry. I tried convincing myself it was just another panic attack I was having and all I needed to do was get to the house and relax.
On my way home I called my wife so I could have someone with me on the phone just incase something had happened. As usual, she tried to calm me down and get my mind off the situation at hand. This time it wasn’t helping. No matter how hard I tried, I could not get myself to feel better.
Immediately after parking my car in the garage and walking into the house a strange shocking feeling started taking place throughout my entire body. Ok, now I’m seriously trippin and knew I had to make my way to the emergency. My wife said she would go and get our son up and take me. I insisted to keep him sleeping and I would call my brother who lived almost 45 minutes away to come and take me. She was hard to convince because she wanted to make sure I was alright and didn’t want anything to happen. God, I love her so much.
It was about an hour after my initial call to my brother when he showed up. I immediately left the house, hopped in the car and we were on our way to the place I did not want to be but knew I had to be.
At The Emergency Room and Panicking
We parked the car, rushed inside and made our way to the check in desk after passing at least 40 other patients waiting to be seen. Oh boy, is this really going to be one of those nights that turn into a long waiting game until they finally tell me I’m ok and just having another attack or Acid Reflux (What they usually say anytime something isn’t right lol)? Nope! Not this time. The person that had checked me in asked what I was feeling like at that moment. I described my symptoms. Immediately after expressing to him that my chest felt tight I was taken to through the doors and into the back. They ran and EKG, Checked my Blood Pressure and temperature. 220/115 is what my blood pressure read!!!! I couldn’t believe it, but even more in disbelief was the nurse that took it. She said I was on the verge of having a stroke! A Stroke??? Are you kidding me? I’m 36, young and last time I checked my blood pressure was perfect.
They gave my a relaxer to try to calm me down. I had panic attacks before, but now after hearing that news it was a different level of panic attack. I actually started convincing myself that I was dying and this was it. I know, dramatic, but that thinking and psychological behavior is one of the reasons I have the attacks in the first place.
The next morning I called my Dr’s office to set up an appointment. They had originally set my appointment for a week out, but after getting a call back because my dr was notified of my blood pressure the night before, he immediately insisted I come me in asap.
What I did to Fix The Problem
At the Dr’s office my blood pressure still read extremely high. I was prescribed Blood Pressure medicine and to lower my sodium intake. At that moment, I knew I needed a lifestyle change. I didn’t want to be on prescription medicine. I knew that I could lower my blood pressure myself. I just needed to learn how to eat better, exercise and use natural remedies or supplements to bring my blood pressure back down to a normal healthy level. I want to be here for my family as long as I can. I want to see my kids graduate, get married, have children and just be there for them. I knew I had to be more heart healthy and smarter with my choices when it came to my health.
Today my blood pressure is 117/78!!! Perfect! I’m so grateful I caught it early on and did something about it before it did something to me. I’ll be posting and sharing information on how I was able to normalize my blood pressure and live a healthier and happier life. I’ll walk through my meal plans, exercise routines and the supplements I use. I’ll also be sharing the little things I do to make the biggest difference when it comes to not only lowering your blood pressure but maintaining a healthy heart and healthy life!!!
