How Important Magnesium Is For A Healthy Heart and Life
Why You Need Magnesium
Magnesium (Mg) may be the one mineral we don’t talk about that is so crucial to a healthy heart and life. We all know that potassium is associated with foods like bananas, calcium is associated with our bones health, and sodium with blood pressure. However, one of the most important minerals needed in order for out body’s to function at its best is magnesium. Some researchers believe that magnesium is the single most important nutrient we need for a healthy heart and life.
It is so essential for our body in many ways. Some key benefits include maintaining your energy level, help in relaxing your body, and keeping your heart and blood vessels performing at there optimal levels. Being one of the most important minerals needed to maintain a healthy life, it is also one of the minerals a majority of the population is deficient in. It is a miracle Mineral and is just one of the things I incorporate in my diet, whether through food or supplements. The problem is the amount of magnesium needed to maintain the recommended amount we need is almost impossible to get just through foods because of how processed they are, or because you would just have to consume so much.
Research and Doctors believe it may help prevent heart attacks because of it’s blood thinner properties, just like aspirin. I use a magnesium supplement to help with my blood pressure and over all healthy heart.

- Avocados
- Bananas
- whole grains which include bran nuts like almonds and brazil nuts
- Seeds, including Pumpkin, flaxseed, sunflower and sesame.
- Dark chocolate high in Cocoa is also a good source of Magnesium.
Supplements
Sometimes we can’t include all the foods we need to get the appropriate amount of Magnesium and so supplements can help by filling that void. There are so many forms of Magnesium, which I highly recommend you research the differences for your self. I am not a Doctor but I have found what works best for me personally is taking a chelated Magnesium Supplement. I take the Doctor’s Best. Chelated magnesium is better absorbed I believe than other forms of magnesium because it is bound to a negatively charged group, or anion, in two or more places. Below is the Brand I take:
Doctor’s Best High Absorption Magnesium Dietary Supplement, 200 mg per 2 tablets, 240 Tablets
Always discuss this and any other supplements you are including with your Doctor.
